Jat Airways, so named in January 2003, is the Belgrade, Serbia based successor to JAT Yugoslav Airlines, which was dismantled as a result of the Yugoslavian civil conflicts of the 1990s, that resulted in the Yugoslav Republic being broken into various independent entities.

The original airline, one of the world's oldest, was founded in 1927 under the name Aeroput.
