Indian traffic growth places stress on ATM infrastructure

Over the past few years, India’s aviation market has seen a level of growth replicated in few other places worldwide, and a corresponding increase in passenger numbers and aircraft movements. The growth, combined with a shortage of airport infrastructure and air traffic management resources, has placed greater and greater demands on air traffic controllers at the Airports Authority of India (AAI), which handles Indian civilian ATM, leading to an increase in safety incidents in recent years.
