Heathrow in the fight of its life - third runway backed by government

Britain's Transport Secretary, Ruth Kelly, has launched a Public

consultation on the future development of  London Heathrow Airport, with

support for the construction of a third runway and sixth terminal, providing

a 50% increase in capacity to 700,000 aircraft movements p/a. The government

has also backed a second runway and new terminal buildings' at Stansted Airport,

as well as runway extension programmes at airports in Edinburgh, Newcastle,

Leeds-Bradford, Birmingham and Bristol.
