EUROCONTROL lowers outlook for European flights in 2011

EUROCONTROL revised its forecast for 2011 European aircraft movements downwards, thanks to the "severe disruption" to services to and from Egypt, Libya and Tunisia in the first part of the year. The pan-European air navigation services provider expects European flights will increase 3.2% (±0.8%) over 2010 levels.

EUROCONTROL expects 2012 to be similar (3.1% growth, ±0.9%). Part of this 2012 growth is due to the leap year effect, as well as major sporting events.

Hochtief reported the following traffic highlights at its investment airports in Apr-2011.

  • Passenger numbers: 7.8 million, +14.2%;
  • Aircraft movements: 207,559, +0.1%;
    • Athens: 51,448, -15.7%;
    • Budapest: 32,934, +8.0%;
    • Duesseldorf: 67,730, +7.6%;
    • Hamburg: 49,009, +4.2%;
    • Sydney: n/a;
    • Tirana: 6,438, +8.9%.

ASUR announced the appointment of Adolfo Castro as CEO, effective 01-Jun-2011. Fernando Chico Pardo, the present chairman and CEO, will remain chairman of the company andpPresident of the nominations and compensation, operations, and acquisitions and contracts committees. Shares in ASUR were down 2.2% on Monday.
