Carsten Spohr appointed new CEO and Chairman Lufthansa Cargo AG

Frankfurt (LUFTHANSA) - The Supervisory Board of Lufthansa Cargo AG appointed Carsten Spohr as CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board for a three-year term at its meeting in Frankfurt today. Carsten Spohr is to take over at the helm of Lufthansa Cargo with effect from 15 January 2007. He succeeds Jean-Peter Jansen, who stepped down as Chairman for health reasons in March 2006. Stefan Lauer, Member of the Executive Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, who took over as interim Chairman, is to re-assume his post then as Supervisory Board Chairman of Lufthansa Cargo AG.

Carsten Spohr has been Executive Vice President Services and Human Resources on the board of Lufthansa Passenger Airlines since October 2004.

Carsten Spohr was born in Wanne-Eickel in 1966. After taking a degree in industrial engineering at Karlsruhe Technical University, he obtained a commercial pilot's licence at the Lufthansa Flight Training School in Bremen and Phoenix, Arizona. He subsequently completed the management trainee programme of Deutsche Aerospace in Munich in 1994.

In October 1994, Carsten Spohr returned to Lufthansa to take charge of Central Personnel Recruitment. From 1995 to 1998, he was personal assistant to the Executive Board Chairman prior to assuming responsibility for Lufthansa's regional partnerships in Europe as head of Regional Partner Management in August 1998. Since 2000, he has been responsible for Lufthansa's global alliances. Since 2003, he has additionally been in charge of strategy and holdings at Lufthansa Passenger Airlines.

Carsten Spohr is married and has a daughter.

Carsten Spohr will be succeeded by Karl Ulrich Garnadt, Group Representative and Head of Hub Management Munich since October 2004. With effect from 15 January 2007, Karl Ulrich Garnadt is taking over as Executive Vice President Services and Human Resources at Lufthansa Passenger Airlines.

Karl Ulrich Garnadt (49) began his career at Lufthansa as a commercial airline trainee in 1979. After diverse functions and managerial posts in the passenger and logistics business segments, he assumed responsibility for Network Management at Lufthansa Passenger Airlines in Frankfurt from 1999 to September 2004. Since October 2004, Karl Ulrich Garnadt has been Group Representative and Head of Hub Management in Munich.

Thomas Klühr (44) is taking over from Karl Ulrich Garnadt as Group Representative and Head of Hub Management in Munich.

Thomas Klühr began his career in product management at Lufthansa Passenger Airlines in 1990. After holding various posts in the Lufthansa Group, Thomas Klühr took charge of Sales Controlling at Lufthansa Passenger Airlines in 1999. Since February 2001, he had been head of Controlling at Lufthansa Passenger Airlines.
