British Airways up, Norwegian Air Shuttle down in thin trading

Analysis

Airline share prices moved modestly in light post-Christmas trades yesterday. British Airways (+2.0%) and airberlin (+1.3%), along with Dart Group (+1.9%) and Thomas Cook (+1.0%) added one percent or more.

BA is recovering ground following its costly threatened pre-Christmas strike by flight attendants. Even though the strike was prevented by a court order at the last minute, the carrier saw many premium passengers walk away.

Meanwhile, Norwegian Air lost 2.5%. The fast growing LCC has seen yields decline steeply as it pushed new capacity into the market in its attack on Scandinavian market share, but is one of the more profitable operators.
