ANA tops JAL in domestic passenger traffic for 1st time in 3 years - report
Analysis
TOKYO (XFNews-ASIA) - The number of passengers travelling on All Nippon Airways Co's domestic flights in the past year to March surpassed that of Japan Airlines Corp, the first time it has done so in three years, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported.
The increase in passenger traffic on ANA is believed to be the result of many travellers defecting from JAL because of safety lapses, the report said
ANA carried about 45.47 mln domestic passengers, up 2.2 pct on the year, while JAL saw its figure drop 1.9 pct to around 43.84 mln, the business daily said.
ANA had beaten JAL in domestic passenger traffic in the year to March 2003, when it slashed fares, but JAL then outpaced ANA for two straight years by stepping up its sales efforts.
