Airservices undertakes air traffic safety work
SYDNEY (Airservices Australia) - Airservices Australia is providing safety management systems and air traffic management training at Delhi and Mumbai international airports for the Airports Authority of India.
Airservices consultants are assisting in the delivery of a corporate safety management framework and supplementary operations manuals for air traffic services at both airports.
The contract follows a recent decision by the International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO) requiring air traffic service providers to implement systematic safety management systems at airports and in airspace managed by ICAO member states.
Airservices regional manager India and the subcontinent, Ramesh Malik, said that India was meeting safety standards required by ICAO and airline passengers.
"Because of the complexity of modern air traffic services, a formal approach to safety management is required. Airservices safety management system addresses this requirement and this has been recognised by the Airports Authority of India", he said.
There are obvious safety and cost benefits in identifying and controlling safety deficiencies early in the design phase of an airways system development, he said. The contract will be completed next month.
