ABD: History on the Atlantic!

EU Council of Transport Ministers have unanimously approved

the EU-US ‘open skies’ agreement, effective Mar-08 (five months

later than originally proposed). The agreement is subject to US Senate approval

and individual EU States exercising suspension rights if no progress is made

after four years. EU Transport Commissioner, Jacques Barrot, forecast the deal

would boost trans-Atlantic services by 50% (from 50 million to 75 million) over

five years, providing significant new opportunities for airports on both sides

of the Atlantic. The agreement is set to be signed during the EU-US Summit on

30-Apr-07. [1065 words]
