Karawang International Airport is an airport development project near Jakarta, Indonesia. The project is expected to be operations by 2020 and will serve as an alternative to Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport

Indonesia's Minister of Transport E E Mangindaan said the development of the proposed Karawang International Airport should be accelerated to meet demand and reduce congestion at Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Mr Mangindaan said construction of the new airport may be delayed by at least one year due to a land use review being undertaken by the West Java Provincial Government. Mr Mangindaan said the Ministry hopes to have the first stage of the new airport operational by 2020.

Sep-2013. Lion Air Group submitted a proposal to the Government for the construction of the new airport at Karawang.

Oct-2013. Ministry of Transportation air transportation director general Herry Bakti Singayuda said the government hopes to complete administrative processes for the Karawang Airport project by the end of 2013. Mr Herry said investors for the project would be sought in 1H2014 with a view to commencing construction immediately. It will be developed in several stages to its capacity of 70 million passengers p/a.
