About

Commencing operations in Dec-2004, Blue Air is Romania's first low cost carrier. The carrier's main hub is at Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport, with smaller operational bases at seven European airports flying internationally to western European destinations. On 20-Aug-2013, Blue Air Transport Aerian sold the company to new owners, Airline Management Solutions, consisting of a number of private Romanian shareholders, the company's name was subsequently changed to Blue Air - Airline Management Solutions S.R.L.

In Jul-2021, Ridgecrest entered a non-binding heads of agreement with Cristian Rada, as a result of which Ridgecrest will acquire Airline Invest and its wholly owned subsidiaries Blue Air Aviation and Blue Air Technic. On completion, Ridgecrest will be renamed Blue Air Group. The proposed transaction is subject to matters including the execution of a share purchase agreement, the completion of fundraising by Blue Air, approval by Ridgecrest's shareholders and the raising of new equity funds for the enlarged group.

Blue Air was forced to suspend all flights scheduled to depart from Romanian Airports from 06-Sep-2022 until 12-Sep-2022. The carrier is unable to pay operational costs, due to the seizure of its accounts by Romania's Ministry of Environment. Blue Air planned to resume services on 10-Oct-2022.

On 30-Sep-2022, Blue Air announced it is not in a position to resume operations as planned on 10-Oct-2022. The carrier will announce a revised date for the resumption of operations "upon the finalisation of the ongoing discussions".

Blue Air's request to enter insolvency was admitted by Bucharest Tribunal on 21-Mar-2023. The Romanian Civil Aeronautical Authority suspended Blue Air's AOC on 31-Mar-2023. No further updates have been provided.
