WOW air will be the 'first one to introduce a true low-cost model across the Atlantic': CEO

WOW air will be the "first one to introduce a true low-cost model across the Atlantic" when it commences services from Reykjavik to Boston and Baltimore/Washington in 2015, according to CEO Skuli Mogensen (CNBC, 03-Nov-2014). On the carrier's transatlantic business model, Mr Mogensen stated: "I think the key is really the location of Iceland. Due to the stopover in Iceland we can do this using a narrowbody fleet… A lot less fuel is required, you only need 200 people not 300 people to fill the plane." Mr Mogensen added: "It also allows you great air fleet utilisation, because our planes can do Reykjavik-London-Reykjavik-Boston-Reykjavik all within 24 hours, so our fleet utilisation is up to 20 hours on a 24 hour basis. It's a great, great model with Iceland in the middle."
