Virgin Blue FY2009 revenue up 12.8%

Virgin Blue revenue up 12.8% - financial highlights for the 12 months ended 30-Jun-2009:

  • Revenue: USD2,178 million, +12.8% year-on-year;
  • Operating costs: USD2,202 million, +22.0%;
    • Fuel: USD618.9 million, +27.1%;
    • Labour: USD491.9 million, +11.0%;
    • Airport charges, navigation and station operations: USD442.4 million, +16.9%;
  • Operating profit (loss): (USD24.0 million), compared to a profit of USD124.7 million in the previous corresponding period;
  • Net profit (loss): (USD132.2 million), compared to a profit of USD80.7 million in the previous corresponding period;
  • Underlying EBIT* (loss):
  • Passenger traffic (RPKs): +16.0%;
  • Passenger load factor: 79.1%, -0.6 ppt;
  • Yield per RPK: USD 9.0 cents, -5.3%;
    • Short-haul: -2.4%;
  • Cost per ASK ex fuel: USD 5.4 cents, -4.0%;
    • Short-haul: -4.8%.
  • Based on the conversion rate at USD1 = AUD1.21
