Virgin Atlantic Cargo exceeds expectations in 2013, reports highest ever cargo load

Virgin Atlantic director of cargo John Lloyd stated (24-Apr-2014) the carrier's 2013 results outperformed the market for a second consecutive year and increased its market share by 5% at a time when many of its competitors' businesses were in decline. He said: "The excessive amount of cargo capacity that started to return to the market in 2013 continued the downward pressure on yields but we have clearly been more successful in managing this challenge than many other carriers." During the year, Virgin Atlantic Cargo reported a healthy revenue of GBP225.3 million and its highest ever cargo load factor in its 30 year history of 76%, up 6 ppts and well ahead of the industry average. Cargo volume increased 5% to 224,500 tonnes. [more - original PR]
