United Continental Holdings has capital commitments of USD18.5bn

United Continental Holdings stated (18-Jul-2012) the capital commitments of the company are expected to total USD18.5 billion. The company's capital commitments, as of 30-Jun-2012, primarily relate to the acquisition of aircraft and related spare engines, aircraft improvements and acquisition of information technology services and assets. While the company has not determined the actual assignment of the Boeing 737 MAX 9 between United and Continental, the carrier has provided the following capital commitment estimates, assuming the order will be evenly assigned to the two units. Details include:

  • Last six months of 2012: USD1.2 billion for United Continental comprised USD0.3 billion for United and USD0.9 billion for Continental:
  • 2013: USD1.4 billion for United Continental, USD0.4 billion for United and USD1.0 billion for Continental;
  • 2014: USD1.3 billion for United Continental, USD0.6 billion for United and USD0.7 billion for Continental;
  • 2015: USD1.9 billion for United Continental, USD0.6 billion for United and USD1.3 billion for Continental;
  • 2016: USD2.1 billion for United Continental, USD1.3 billion for United and USD0.8 billion for Continental;
  • After 2016: USD10.6 billion for United Continental, USD8.1 billion for United and USD2.5 billion for Continental;
