TransAsia Airways proposes government initiatives in establishing LCC

Taiwan's Civil Aeronautics Administration Director General Jean Shen confirmed she has been approached by TransAsia Airways chairman Vincent Lin regarding the proposal to establish a LCC. According to a China Times report, Mr Lin has urged the Government to actively create favourable policies for the development of LCCs in Taiwan. Mr Lin also stated the carrier has been studying LCCs for a year and a half. Ms Shen stated she has instructed the aviation authority's air transport division to study the prospects and is seeking opinions from other carriers. Aviation Development Foundation chair and and Ministry of Transportation and Communications Parliamentary Secretary Ye Kuangshi stated carriers wishing to establish a LCC can put forward their requirements but the Aviation Development Foundation will not make any investments. Mr Ye also stated the Government currently does not have any plans to establish an environment for the creation of LCCs but if airlines are willing to invest then the Government will assist. By Sep-2012, there will be a total of nine LCCs operating to Taiwan.
