Taiwan to introduce different charges to encourage LCCs to operate to second tier airports

Taiwan's Ministry of Transportation and Communications announced plans to introduce a different charging system, including landing fees and terminal charges, for international services to encourage foreign carriers particularly LCCs to use the nation's secondary airports rather than focus their routes at Taipei Songshan and Taichung airports. According to a China Times report, under the proposal, landing fees and terminal charges for international operations could be reduced by 50% at most from Mar-2013 at the earliest. Taiwan Civil Aeronautics Administration reported LCCs passengers in Taiwan exceeded one million in 2012.
