Tallinn Lennart Meri Airport begins construction work

Tallinn Lennart Meri Airport announced (29-Apr-2016) its runway extension to 3480m with construction commencing on 01-May-2016 and scheduled for completion by end-2017. The works also include a runway and airport lighting system upgrade, construction of a de-icing area and other general infrastructure improvements. The construction work will be conducted by Lemminkainen Eesti AS and 50% of the project is covered by the EU Cohesion Fund. Tallinn Airport operations director Einar Bambus said the works will affect flights particularly at night, and may force some aircraft to divert to Riga International Airport or Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.
