South Korea's traffic reaches record 1H2010, LCCs market share now 34%

South Korea's Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs reported air passenger and cargo traffic reached record levels in 1H2010, with international passenger numbers increasing 20% year-on-year to 19.2 million, exceeding the previous record set in 1H2008 of 18.4 million (CAAC-News, 23-Jul-2010). Details include:

  • Passenger numbers:
    • International: 19.2 million, +20% year-on-year;
    • Domestic: 10.0 million, +16.1%;
    • Jeju Airport: +19%;
    • Gimhae Airport: +17.3%;
    • Gimpo Airport: +16.1%.

According to the ministry, the country's LCCs transported 3.4 million passengers during the period, 1.7 times more than 1H2009, increasing their market share from 23.3% to 34%.
