South Korea's airlines handle 49.1 million pax in 2011, up 4.8% year-on-year

South Korea's Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs reports (19-Jan-2012) total passenger numbers carried by South Korea's carriers rose 4.8% year-on-year to 49.1 million in 2011. Details include:

• Passenger numbers: 49.1 million, +4.8% year-on-year;
  • Domestic: 21 million, +3.8% year-on-year;
    • South Korea's LCCs: 8.7 million, +23.9%;
  • International: 28.1 million, +5.6%;
    • South Korea's LCCs: 1.8 million, +96.8%;
    • South Korea's LCCs traffic by route:
      • Incheon-Bangkok: 228,896,+18.6% year-on-year;
      • Incheon-Osaka: 115,797, -2.4%;
      • Gimpo-Osaka: 113,812, -3.3%;
      • Incheon-Hong Kong: 112,340, +1032.5%;
      • Gimpo-Nagoya: 109,169, +55.8%.

Total international passenger numbers including passengers carried by foreign carriers rose 6.5% year-on-year to 42.7 million in 2011.
