Shanghai Airlines to terminate Star Alliance membership

Shanghai Airlines agreed (30-Jul-2010) to terminate its Star Alliance membership by the end of Oct-1010, as a result of its recent merger with China Eastern Airlines, which has agreed to join the SkyTeam Alliance by mid-2011 (Reuters/Shanghai Daily, 29-Jul-2010). Shanghai Airlines joined the Star Alliance at the end of 2007, joining Air China. China Southern Airlines is also a SkyTeam airline, while oneworld does not have a Chinese member airline, although Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific is part of that alliance. [more]
