Second Beijing Airport still awaiting approval, Airport construction still lagging demand increases

CAAC Director General Li Jiaxiang stated the proposed second Beijing Airport has yet to receive approval from China's National Development and Reform Commission. As reported by Carnoc, Mr Li stated the 17 new airports to be constructed in 2012 still lag far behind the increasing demand in the country. According to Mr Li, China will construct 72 new airports and upgrade and expand 101 airports during the nation's 12th five year development plan ending in 2015. The majority of the new airports will be small to mid-sized airports located in the central and western regions of China.
