Swine Flu update: 05-May-09: ATA
Air Transport Association of America welcomed (04-May-09) statements by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Health and Human Services (HHS), World Health Organization (WHO) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) that there is no rationale for travel restrictions due to swine influenza.
The Air Transport Association of America, (ATA) the industry trade organization for the leading US airlines, responded (04-May-09) to recent comments made by officials at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Health and Human Services (HHS), World Health Organization (WHO) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
ATA President and CEO James C May said, "While we are heartened to learn that CDC Acting Director Besser is seeing 'encouraging signs' regarding the severity of the H1N1 virus and that HHS Secretary Sebelius expects to have vaccines available for the fall flu season, US airlines continue to temporarily adjust schedules to and from Mexico based on demand. We also appreciate the WHO clarification and the ICAO statement that there is no rationale for travel restrictions related to the H1N1 virus."
