Portugal requests EU bailout

Portugal's Prime Minister Jose Socrates stated Portugal has requested a bailout by the European Union (Bloomberg, 06-Apr-2011). "I tried everything but we came to a moment that not taking this decision would bring risks we can't afford. The government decided to make the European Commission a request for financial aid," Mr Socrates said.
