Passenger self-service 'critical' to AirAsia's future success

AirAsia group head ground and inflight operations Steven Dickson, speaking on CAPA TV, said (06-Aug-2014) Asia has been slower than other regions to adopt self-service systems for passengers. Mr Dickson said, "self service is absolutely critical to our future success" by driving down unit costs for ground handling and "empowering the customer" by providing more control over the airport experience. AirAsia intends to introduce automated bag drop systems in 4Q2014 to deliver unit cost improvements and reduce queues at airports. Mr Dickson said, "there's no excuse for queues in airports now."
