OAG: global airline capacity up 3% y-o-y in Nov-2009; Middle East +23%. Asia +8%; Latam +13%

OAG stated (16-Nov-2009) capacity growth by the world’s airlines rose 3% year-on-year in seat capacity and +1% in frequencies in Nov-2009. The low cost sector showed an 8% growth in both seat capacity and frequency, accounting for 424,458 flights (18%) and 62.6 million seats (22%). Details include:

  • Within Asia: scheduled services +7%, capacity +8% year-on-year;
  • To/from Asia: +1%, +1%;
  • Within Middle East: +19%, +23%;
  • To/from Middle East: +10%, +9%;
  • Within Europe: -4%, -1%;
  • To/from Europe: +1%, +1%;
  • Within North America: -2%, -3%;
  • To/from North America: -4%, -3%;
  • Within Africa: +4%, +7%;
  • To/from Africa: +11%, +13%;
  • Within Latin America: +5%, +13%;
  • To/from Latin America: -0.1%, -0.1%;
