Nauru Airlines outlines business strategy following collapse of Air Nauru in 2005

Nauru Airlines CEO Geoff Bowmaker, speaking at the CAPA Australia Pacific Aviation Summit, said (08-Aug-2014) the airline was forced to develop a new strategy once the Nauruan economy collapsed and the airline's sole Boeing 737-400 was repossessed in 2005. Mr Bowmaker said within six months the airline had rebounded, using its history of operational excellence to assist airlines within the region. Mr Bowmaker noted: "Once the formula for Our Airline was established, one contract seemed to follow another and we got a lot of good utilisation... More recently the asylum seeker programme, or detention centres, developed on Nauru have given us yet a further lease of life.
