KLIA's LCC terminal to cost between USD1.12 bn to USD1.22 bn

Malaysia Airports released (29-Nov-2011) details of plans to construct a new permanent LCCT named 'klia2' in Sepang. The completion date is now in Apr-2013, instead of Oct-2012 and it will cost between USD1.12 billion (RM3.6 billion) to USD1.22 billion (RM3.9 billion). The development includes the installation of aerobridge, construction of a new ATC tower, a longer runway and larger floorspace. The upgrade of its automated baggage system will cost USD31.25 million (MYR100 million).

Malaysia Airports: "With the larger terminal footprint now standing at 257,000 m2, 68 contact stands and enhanced systems in place, such as a fully automated baggage handling system, klia2 will be the world's largest purpose-built terminal for LCCs with the capacity to serve up to 45 million passengers annually, ready to cater for the explosive growth in low cost travel. klia2 is one of the largest privately funded projects and will spur the local economic growth and employment opportunities."
