Malaysia Airlines announces creation of Malaysia Aviation Group
Malaysia Airlines announced (19-May-2016) the establishment of the Malaysia Aviation Group, effective 19-May-2016, comprising subsidiaries and equity investments organised into the following business segments:
- Air Transportation Services: Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, MASwings and MAB Kargo. MAB Kargo will apply for its own operating certificate and will operate as a separate company from 2017;
- Ground Services: AeroDarat Services and MAB Engineering;
- Aircraft Leasing: MAB Leasing and MAB Pesawat;
- Talent Development: MAB Academy.
The structure is expected to improve transparency, drive focussed management across the operating subsidiaries, ensure profit and loss accountability, drive greater operational efficiency and allow flexibility for the companies to explore collaboration and capital raising opportunities. The group will be more process-oriented, which is expected to benefit customers by focussing on their specific needs. Current Malaysia Airlines board members will also sit on the Group board. Malaysia Aviation Group CEO Christoph Mueller said: "The new group structure...will align structures and processes more consistently to the needs of our customer groups and raise the Group's overall efficiency and focus, reduce complexity and increase decision-making speeds."
