Hong Kong International Airport pax up 11%, cargo down 8% in Mar-2015. Handles 16.4m pax in 1Q

Hong Kong International Airport passenger numbers up 11% - traffic highlights:

  • Mar-2015:
    • Passenger numbers: 5.7 million, +11.4% year-on-year;
    • Cargo volume: 364,000 tonnes, -8.2%;
    • Aircraft movements: 34,310, +5.7%;
  • 1Q2015:
    • Passenger numbers: 16.4 million, +8.8%;
    • Cargo volume: 1.0 million tonnes, +2.9%;
    • Aircraft movements: 98,890, +5.3%.

The airport noted (19-Apr-2015) the results marks a new monthly record in terms of movements. The airport also noted passenger growth was driven by an 18% growth in transfer/transit traffic, while passengers to/from North Asia and Southeast Asia recorded the most significant increases. The cargo decline was attributed to a 16% decline in exports. Transshipments recorded a slight 1% decline, while imports registered a 2% increase. Traffic to/from North America outperformed other key regions during the month.
