Hong Kong Airport traffic growth continues to surpass 20-year forecast, driven by China/Taiwan

Hong Kong International Airport reported (13-Apr-2014) the following traffic highlights:

  • Mar-2014:
    • Passenger numbers: 5.1 million, +2.9% year-on-year;
    • Cargo volume: 397,000 tonnes, +10.4%;
    • Aircraft movements: 32,445, +6.2%;
  • 1Q2014:
    • Passenger numbers: 15 million, +5.3%;
    • Cargo volume: 997,000, +5.6%;

Airport Authority Hong Kong CEO Stanley Hui noted the airport's robust growths continue to surpass its 20-year forecast, demonstrating the need to expand the airport is even more pressing to meet the demand. The airport also noted passenger traffic growth was due to a 7% growth in visitor traffic and 6% growth in transfer/transit traffic. Passenger traffic to/from mainland China and Taiwan recorded the biggest increases.
