The airport noted (18-Apr-2016) the growth in passenger traffic in Mar-2016 was mainly driven by Hong Kong resident travel, which registered 19% year-on-year growth over the same month last year. Passenger traffic to/from Southeast Asia and North Asia recorded the most significant increases. Airport Authority Hong Kong executive director of Airport Operates C K Ng said: "In March, HKIA was delighted to welcome the arrival of the first A350 aircraft, operated by Finnair between Hong Kong and Helsinki. This new generation aircraft is quieter, more energy efficient and environmental friendly. HKIA strives to develop into a smart airport, leveraging advanced technologies to continuously enhance operational efficiency and passenger experience. The new service enables passengers to cut processing time by half as compared to queuing at traditional check-in counters."
