Global airline capacity up 4% in Dec-2009: OAG

OAG reports the world’s airlines increased seat capacity by 4% year-on-year and frequencies by 1% in Dec-2009. The low cost sector reported a 10% increase in both seat capacity and frequency, accounting for 444,539 flights (18%) and 65.6 million seats (22%). Details include:

  • Within Asia: scheduled services +7%, capacity 9%;
  • To/from Asia: +4%, +4%;
  • Within Middle East: +19%, +23%;
  • To/from Middle East: +10%, +10%;
  • Within Europe: -2%, +1%;
  • To/from Europe: +4%, +3%;
  • Within North America: -2%, -3%;
  • To/from North America: +1%, n/a;
  • Within Latin America: +4%, +12%;
  • To/from Latin America: +5%, +5%;
  • Within Africa: +6%, +8%;
