Frankfurt International Airport's fourth runway to be opened on 21-Oct-2011

Germany's Fraport confirmed the opening of Frankfurt International Airport's fourth runway on 21-Oct-2011. Construction of the runway commenced on 20-Jan-2009. The inauguration of the 2800m runway will allow for parallel takeoff and landing operations and incrementally raise Frankfurt's coordinated runway capacity from its current 83 to 126 movements per hour. This capacity increase will enable the airport to meet the growing demand from passengers and airlines. Forecasts predict nearly 90 million passengers p/a will use the airport in the future.
