European Commission: 20+ airports in Europe are expected to be operating at 80%+ capacity by 2035

European Commission director general mobility and transport João Aguiar Machado, speaking at the CAPA World Aviation Summit, said (21-Nov-2014) 20 or more airports in Europe are expected to be operating at 80% or more capacity by 2035 under the most likely forecast scenario. Europe may be unable to meet a large part of demand by 2035 due to lack of capacity, resulting in 120 million passengers being unable to travel. Mr Machado said airports face the challenges of making better use of existing capacity and improving quality and efficiency.
