Etihad Airways has no plans to join global alliance until business matures

Etihad Airways CEO, James Hogan, stated the carrier is a "natural fit" for a global alliance, but added the carrier will not join an alliance until it has matured as a business (ABTN, 10-Aug-2010).

Etihad Airways: "As a start up airline we took a blank sheet approach to building the business. We can work with everyone and at the moment that is right for our customers... We will look at consolidation in the sector and monitor and mergers and acquisitions. By 2015-17 we will be a mid-size carrier with a fleet of 120 aircraft. We see ourselves as being a natural fit with one of the alliances but it a question of timing because we are still a relatively new airline," James Hogan, CEO. Source: ABTN, 10-Aug-2010.
