Ethiopian Airlines CEO says more work needs to be done by Star Alliance on Africa connections

Ethiopian Airlines CEO Tewolde GebreMariam, speaking at the CAPA World Aviation Summit 2015, said (07-Oct-2015) more work needs to be done by Star Alliance on the Europe-Africa and Asia-Africa connections available. According to Mr GebreMariam, the Star Alliance's bigger carriers "lack an interest" in Africa, due to its size and are more interested in 'North-North' lines across the Atlantic, not 'North-South' markets. Ethiopian Airlines is trying to convince its alliance partners to develop more interest, as he believes Star Alliance's market share could grow, particularly from Asia to Africa. He added that SkyTeam is showing more interest in Africa than Star Alliance.
