easyJet announces second German base at Hamburg Airport

easyJet announced (25-Sep-2013) plans to open a base at Germany's Hamburg Airport in spring 2014 and expand its Berlin base which will see the creation of 100 new direct jobs in Hamburg and 35 in Berlin. Hamburg will be the airline's 23rd European base. The Hamburg base will open with three A319 aircraft with 15 additional new business and leisure routes in addition to its existing six routes from the airport. easyJet expects to operate almost 170 weekly frequencies from the airport over summer 2014 and expects to bring 275,000 additional business and leisure visitors to Hamburg in the first year. easyJet also plans to base an eighth aircraft in Berlin which will allow the carrier to carry 130,000 more passengers p/a in addition to the four million passengers the airline has carried through the airport in the last 12 months. The aircraft will allow easyJet to increase frequencies on popular business and leisure routes and operate up to 635 weekly frequencies from the airport over summer 2014.
