Germanwings: Flight cancellations in Europe

Direct News Source

18-Apr-2010 European Air Traffic Services suspended traffic in parts of the European airspace for every airline.

This is due to clouds of volcanic ash, following an eruption in Iceland. Like all other airlines, Germanwings must comply with directives issued by ministries and air traffic control. In Germany, the airports in Dortmund, Dresden, Hanover, Cologne/Bonn, Berlin, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Leipzig have shut down.

All Germanwings flights until Monday, April 19th, 02.00 p.m. CEST have been cancelled.

For the time being, passengers who have booked Germanwings flights for today are requested not to travel to the airport and to keep up-to-date with the status of their flights for other possible cancellations online. All flight information will be updated as soon as possible. A flight which appears "awaiting update" in the information can nevertheless be cancelled on short notice.

Note to passengers who are waiting for a return trip to Germany

We are trying hard to bring back all held abroad passengers as soon as possible back to Germany. Passengers are therefore requested to check their flight status and their e-mail adress given by flight reservation continuously for possible changes.

If Germanwings passengers' flights (with flight date up to and including April 21th 2010) are affected by the closure, Germanwings will amend your booking free of charge to another Germanwings flight. Your origin and destination must remain unchanged and the new flight must be taken within the next two weeks.

Passengers can rebook their tickets free of charge online at My Germanwings.

If a Germanwings flight is cancelled now, Germanwings will naturally reimburse the ticket price. The refund will be given when the customer's cancellation request arrives with Germanwings, also after the original departure date of the flight.
