Continental Airlines reports USD146 million loss in 1Q2010

Continental Airlines reports (22-Apr-2010) the following financial highlights for the three months ended 31-Mar-2010:
  • Revenue: USD3,169 million, +7.0% year-on-year;
  • Operating costs: USD3,220 million, +6.7%;
    • Fuel: +16.2%;
  • Operating profit (loss): (USD51 million), compared to a loss of USD55 million in the corresponding period last year;
  • Net profit (loss): (USD146 million), compared to a loss of USD136 million in the corresponding period last year;
  • Mainland operation:
    • Passenger numbers: 10.6 million, stable;
    • Passenger load factor: 80.1%, +4.3 ppts;
    • Passenger Yield (per RPM): -0.2%
    • Operating costs per ASM: +7.4%. [more]
Continental Airlines: "I'm disappointed with our first quarter results, which were impacted by the weak economy and the challenges we experienced with weather related closures of our Newark Liberty hub.
