Chinese carriers expect significant rise in 1Q2011 results

Air China, China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines are expected to reported significant increases in operating performance in 1Q2011 (Shanghai Securities News, 11-Feb-2011). Chinese carriers are expected to report a 14% year-on-year increase in passenger numbers on the back of a 10% increase in capacity and a more than 10% increase in fares for a 30% jump in Jan-2011 operating revenue. Meanwhile, Air China is expected to report a profit of CNY1000 million (USD151.5 million), China Eastern CNY500 million (USD75.8 million), China Southern CNY700 million (USD106 million) and Hainan Airlines to report CNY400 million (USD60.6 million) in profit for the month.
