China Eastern Airlines considering transforming China United Airlines into LCC: report

China Eastern Airlines is reportedly considering transforming its China United Airlines subsidiary into a LCC and has contacted consulting companies to undertake research and planning, according to a report by Yicai. China Eastern completed restructuring of China United in Nov-2013. China United operates a fleet of 25 all-Boeing 737 aircraft. By 2015, the carrier is expected to expand its fleet to 50 aircraft and transport more than 10 million passengers p/a. China United was established in 2004 by Shanghai Airlines and China Aviation Supplies Group, and became a China Eastern subsidiary following China Eastern's merger with Shanghai Airlines.
