Brazil Civil Aviation Minister confirms no fare ceilings during World Cup but will monitor fares

Brazil's Civil Aviation Minister confirmed (22-Oct-2013) there will be no price ceiling imposed on airfares during the 2014 FIFA World Cup, but said "abuses" of airfares during the tournament would be addressed by the Government. Mr Franco said, "There will be no 'ceiling'. Brazil already had experience with fare ceilings and today airfares are cheaper than at the time of ceilings." A commission will be established to monitor fares which will "act to prevent consumers from being harmed when excesses are detected." [more - original PR - Portuguese]
