Boeing finalises 777-9 configuration

Boeing announced (27-Aug-2015) the completion of the firm configuration milestone for the 777-9, the first member of the 777X family to be developed. The firm configuration milestone marks the completion of configuration trade studies required to finalise the aircraft capability and basic design. Wind tunnel test results, aerodynamic performance and structural loads are also evaluated to ensure the aircraft meets requirements. This allows the 777X team to begin detailed design of parts, assemblies and other systems for the aircraft. As detailed designs are completed and released, production can begin. The 777X programme has received orders and commitments for 320 aircraft from six customers worldwide. Production is set to begin in 2017. [more - original PR]
