BEA to resume search for AF447 wreckage

BEA, the French air accident investigation agency, announced its intention to resume the search for wreckage and the black box of Air France flight AF 447, which crashed off the coast of Brazil on 01-Jun-2009 (Reuters, 12-Mar-2010). The search will resume on 25-Mar-2010. Meanwhile, a Rio de Janeiro court ordered Air France to pay USD1.16 million in compensation to the family of a victim of the crash (Reuters, 13-Mar-2010). French insurance company Axa, which insures Air France, will appeal the decision. Air France has already announced its intention to pay families EUR100,000 per victim, as a compassionate gesture.
