Bahrain to increase airport capacity to 13.5 million p/a

Bahrain International Airport (BIA) announced (04-Jul-2011) it will begin a new expansion program that is expected to increase the airport's capacity by 50%. The entire expansion program is expected to take four years and add 40,000 sq m, five new gates and forty check-in counters, boosting the airport capacity from 9 million to 13.5 million passengers. The airport has awarded a USD11.6 million contract to engineering consulting firm, Dar Al Handasah to launch and manage the expansion project. [more]
