B787 was an innovation that the industry needed: Delta President

Delta Air Lines President Edward Bastian stated the B787 was an innovation that the industry needed but stated the carrier is seeing what will happen with the aircraft (Reuters, 16-Feb-2011). The carrier has deferred orders for 18 B787 until 2020 to 2022, from an earlier delivery timeframe of 2008 to 2010.

Delta Air Lines: "We were not willing to submit the size of the capital expense on the front end of that given some of the delays and challenges they've had. Long-term we think it's a great product. We're waiting to see where it ends up," Edward Bastian, President. Source: Reuters, 16-Feb-2011.
