Virgin Atlantic takes delivery of first of four 787-9s from Avolon

Virgin Atlantic received (23-Mar-2015) the first of four Boeing 787-9 it will lease from Avolon. Avolon CEO Dómhnal Slattery said: "Our latest delivery to Virgin Atlantic represents a milestone for both Avolon and Virgin. It is our first delivery of a Boeing 787-9, of which we have a further nine in our committed fleet. At Avolon our objective is to play a significant role in financing the next generation of young, modern and fuel efficient aircraft for our global airline customer base. We believe the B787-9 is the perfect complement to Virgin Atlantic's current fleet." According to the CAPA Fleet Database, the aircraft is Virgin Atlantic's fourth 787-9 aircraft with a further 19 on order. Oriel estimates the aircraft's monthly dry lease rate at USD1.2 million.
