Australia's remote tourism markets negatively affected by high airport charges

Virgin Australia Regional Airlines CEO Merren McArthur, speaking at the CAPA Australia Pacific Aviation Summit, stated (09-Aug-2013) governments and tourism bodies have a responsibility to help reduce airfares to support regional and remote tourism markets. Ms McArthur said markets not supported by corporate traffic are negatively affected by airport charges. Ms McArthur said airport charges in Western Australia are the highest in the country and may comprise 50% of the base fare at Albany Airport. [more - original PR]
