Australia’s DIRD expects major traffic growth at Sydney, Gold Coast, Perth and Darwin by 2030

Australia's Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development (DIRD) stated (Sep-2014), in its 'Transport security outlook to 2025', that: "Forecasts show Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane continuing to lead the way for total passenger movements over the outlook period, although the largest growth through major airports between 2010 and 2030 is expected to occur in Sydney (101 per cent), Gold Coast (139 per cent), Perth (135 per cent) and Darwin (127 per cent)." The DIRD stated large infrastructure projects are scheduled to facilitate traffic growth at the airports. The department stated: "These include the planned 'Gateway WA' Perth Airport Project to upgrade access roads and an international terminal expansion; a second runway at Brisbane Airport by 2020; a third runway at Melbourne Airport by 2022; and the second Sydney Airport at Badgerys Creek to come online around 2025."
